Does your laptop’s Wi-Fi really make it more vulnerable to thieves?

Computerworld - It was a startling claim: Like a virtual trail of cookie crumbs, your laptop could be beaming out invisible signals that are attracting intrepid thieves armed with a common $5 gadget.

This alarming scenario comes by way of a press release from security vendor Credant Technologies Inc.

Citing a news report from Jamaica, Credant’s vice president of marketing, Sean Glynn, notes that “low-cost key fob Wi-Fi detectors for under a fiver and quite sophisticated directional detectors for around the 30 pounds mark … can be used by thieves to detect the presence of an out-of-sight laptop.”

However, experts polled by Computerworld said that for most users, Wi-Fi doesn’t increase their laptops’ chances of being stolen.

For users who are careless with their laptop and its settings, there could be an increased risk of theft. But as long as they abide by these steps, those risks can be mitigated, they said.

Tough Times Require Smart Web Design

Although the recession in has ended in the United States, there are still millions left unemployed and people are still not spending money like they used to. This is why companies, especially those in the retail industry, should continue to maximize the use of their resources to increase the profitability of their business. Since the economy of the US started to decline in the late 2007 it has become more difficult for companies to convince people to spend their money especially on non-necessities and this is why aside from maximizing company resources businesses needed to become more creative in marketing their products to achieve greater profitability.

One of the resources and assets that companies must make sure works wonderfully for their business is the company website. It is during tough economic times that companies must make sure that their websites are working to their advantage.

A company must make sure that it maintains its positive image especially during tough times. There are so many companies out there that could be competing directly and indirectly with your business. Your image or your brand can be the only thing that can set you apart from all your competitors. You need to establish a strong brand that clients can relate to and that people will patronize.

Your website is just one of the many tools that can be used to establish a strong cocktail dresses with sleeves brand. This is why it is very important to have smart web design. With billions of people on the internet, it is important to establish a strong and positive online image that will help your business sell. When you establish a good public image, that can really help your business continue to experience success even when the economy is not so good. You need to be able to establish your products as the products to buy at any time.

To establish a website with smart design, make sure that you hire a good web programming and design team to develop your website for you. You need to make sure that the dresses online company you are hiring is capable of creating a website that really complements all your marketing, publicity and communication efforts.

Nano Measurement In The Third Dimension

From the motion sensor to the computer chip, in many products of daily life components are used whose functioning is based on smallest structures of the size of thousandths — or even millionths — of millimetres. These micro and nano structures must be manufactured and assembled with the highest precision so that in the end, the overall system will function smoothly.

Because of this, details are important. Scientists Nursing Los Angeles at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) have now developed a metrological scanning probe microscope into a micro and nano coordinate measuring instrument. This allows dimensional quantities with nanometer resolution also to be measured on three-dimensional objects in an extraordinarily large measurement range of 25 mm x 25 mm x 5 mm. The new device is already extensively being used at PTB - to a large part for calibration orders from industry and research.

Often, such small dimensions bailwiz can be grasped only when they are transferred to everyday life. If we assume, for example, that someone lost a cube of sugar within an area of 25 square kilometres – the new micro and nano coordinate measuring instrument would not only be able to find it, but it would also be able to determine its exact position and shape. This does not only apply to plane surfaces, but also to three-dimensional landscapes, for example if the cube of sugar were stuck to a steep wall.

As increasingly, hair removal in los angeles components with structures in the micro- and nanometer range are being used in industry, dimensional metrology on such structures is becoming increasingly important. To meet the increasing requirements for 3D measurements of micro and nano structures, 3D measuring probes newly developed at PTB were incorporated in a metrological scanning probe microscope based on a commercial nano-positioning system with integrated laser displacement sensors of the company SIOS Messtechnik GmbH. The new functionalities given by the measuring probe and the software extend the scanning probe microscope to a metrological micro/nano coordinate measuring machine (CMM) which also allows 3D measurements conforming to standards to be performed on micro and nano structures.

International intercomparisons on step-height standards and lattice structures have shown that the measuring system is worldwide one of the most precise of its kind. For step heights, measurement uncertainties in the subnanometer range - and for measurements of the mean structure spacing on extensive lattice standards even in the range of 10 picometers - have been achieved and confirmed in comparison with optical diffraction measurements.

The new measuring instrument is available for dimensional precision measurements with nm resolution on 3D micro and nano structures such as micro gears, micro balls, hardness indenters and nano lattice standards as well as for comparisons of measures; moreover, it serves as a platform for research and development tasks. It is an important link between nano, micro and macro coordinate metrology.

Developing a Complex External DSL. Part 2.

Design and Development

Designing and developing any complex language is a big challenge. Even if you have a good idea of what you want out of a language, working out the details of a complex language can bend your mind. It seems like just about the time you think you’ve got all the language features identified and syntax worked out, your future user base (including yourself) thinks of something new. This is many times even more so the case than when designing a general purpose language.

Of course, like anything useful in our field, a language will undergo enhancement after enhancement over time. One thing we need to do is make sure that we can support those enhancements over time. The language design, therefore, needs to embrace change. Further, a good language design will make developing the language far easier.

I mention a wide range of language syntaxes in this section, including graphical and textual. However, I must limit my scope to just one syntax type in order to keep this article to a reasonable length. Thus, I have chosen to focus on textual DSLs. A textual DSL is easily understood, and is likely applicable even when a graphical DSL is in use (see why below).
Syntax Design For Now and Later

Fortunately most language designers don’t wake up in the morning and say “I’m going to create a language today, and I wonder what it will be.” If we are considering the development of a language we have a good idea why. This is important because if we really don’t have a clear vision for the language our resulting design will be just as weak. So an important first step in language design is to know a lot about what you want your language to do.
